The Beauty of Grief

Description: Set some time aside to be with yourself. Simply sit in silence and feel your feelings. You might want to play some sad music to help invoke them. Have with you some photos of the person or pet, or something that belonged to them. Whatever reminds you of your loss whether it’s personal or global. For example, an earthquake in China with a loss of over 20,000 lives or a more personal loss like the death of a friend. This will help the feelings to come to the surface. Do this as often as you feel you need to.

Benefits: Over time the grief transforms itself into emotional stillness, love and wisdom.

Dancing

Description:  Have you ever put on your favorite dancing music when no one was around and just cut loose? You can easily turn this into a meditation.

Stage One: Close your eyes and dance. At first it might seem strange but persevere. If you have some favorite dance music, put it on. If not, then dance anyway. By closing your eyes (wear a blindfold if you have one) the focus goes within and the dance is pure enjoyment, pure delight.

Stage Two: Lie down in silence with eyes closed. You can do this for 4 minutes: 2 minutes of dancing, 2 minutes of silence, or as long as you wish.

Benefits: Dancing meditation is one of the easiest ways of dropping into a calm, silent place within. It releases tensions from the body and mind and invites your inner joy, creativity and love of life to come forward. My favorite music for the dancing meditation is the
Osho Nataraj Meditation CD.

Clarity of Mind

Description:
Sit silently for 5 to 10 minutes, eyes closed, body relaxed and watch. Let thoughts settle themselves. Just like a stream which has become muddy, when you wait patiently on the bank and watch, the dead leaves float downstream and the mud settles on its own.The stream suddenly is crystal-clear again. Similarly your mind suddenly is crystal-clear again.

Benefits:  By making a practice of this technique every day you easily drop down into a quiet, calm clarity of mind.

Slow Down To Go Faster

Description:  The more slowly, deliberately and care-fully we do something, the better the outcome. It is this quality of PRESENCE that is at the very core of meditation.

When and Where:  Experiment in every arena of your life. Start with simple activities like doing the dishes, taking out the trash, driving your car.  The activity doesn’t matter. What matters is the quality of your presence being mind-full, care-full and deliberate. Notice how it makes you feel. Pay attention to the quality of care you are giving the activity or the person to whom you are speaking.

Benefits:  Over time, as you make this a habit, you find yourself more relaxed, more present, producing higher quality work. All your relationships are enhanced and you are more creative and receptive.

A Cup of Silent Tea

Description:
Do this simple practice to bring awareness to the ordinary activity of drinking tea, or your beverage of choice (hot or cold).

Prepare the teacups and the teapot. Listen to the kettle and the sound it makes. Pour the tea, smelling the fragrance, savoring the aroma, then tasting the tea and feeling that deep sense of contentment that comes as the tea’s warmth enters your body. Feel thankful that you are alive and in this moment drinking tea. Don’t think about the past or the future. Surrender to the present moment, just you and the tea, as if nothing else exists.

When and Where:
If you happen to be reading this on a sweltering hot day, or live in the desert or a very hot climate, you might like to try this with iced tea. Listen to the chink of the ice as it drops into the glass; enjoy the colors through the glass, the mint, slice of lemon, or cherry you might add for flavor. Enjoy the coolness, the refreshing taste, and feel of the ice cold tea as you sip it through a straw, relaxing into the moment.

If all you have time for is buying a coffee at your local coffee shop, then adapt this technique to your situation.

Benefits:
This practice gives you a taste of meditation, of silence, of the beauty and grace that can be brought to even the simplest acts.

Dropping Guilt

Description:
Choose an activity you really like to do, for example, going to the movies. Notice, when you are at the movies,
any self-critical thoughts passing through the mind. They are usually accompanied by “should” and “ought”. “I should  have gone to exercise at the gym”, “I ought to be cleaning out the kitchen cupboards”, instead of sitting here enjoying this movie!

Remind yourself that down-time, fun-time, is important for your well being. The more you keep yourself in a positive, celebatory state of mind, the more you relax and attract good things. Staying in the present moment, watching a movie, the more you enjoy it, which is energizing and revitalizing.

Benefits:
More joy and energy after the movie for exercising, cleaning and sharing with friends and family.

Silence of the Night

Description:
Before you go to bed at night, alone or with a partner, sit silently, look into the darkness. Become one with the dark, disappear into it. Look at the stars — feel the distance, the silence, the emptiness, and use night for your meditation.

Sitting on your bed, or on your balcony, or in your garden, doing nothing…just feeling, just being there. The day is worldly, the night is more spiritual. Over time you feel tremendously in tune with night. The world is asleep. Everything stops, traffic, noises, the mundane world is quiet. People, their unconsciousness, bad attitudes, have all disappeared into sleep. The atmosphere is clean with no jarring note.

Benefits:
Start enjoying the beauty of the night and feel it more and more. Absorb the tranquility, serenity, and comfort night offers. Your sleep then carries a quality of meditation and in the morning you feel refreshed in a whole new way.

Night is tremendously beautiful. It is a good time for meditation. It helps you release the tensions of the day easily, offortlessly.

Confusion

Description:
Confusion is part of life. It is a good thing. It shows you are alive, growing. Accept it. The moment you accept that “I don’t know”, all confusion evaporates. Life is a great mystery because it is based on paradox. We only get confused because we have a certain fixed idea on how life should be. The mind gets stuck on old rigidities and limitations.

When and Where:
When you feel confused, accept it. Allow yourself to not know. In this not-knowing there is great freedom to be in the present moment and allow something new to arise.

Benefits:
The heart never gets confused. It simply knows. The mind gets confused because it is trying to holdvon to old rigid patterns. Recognizing what is going on helps you to drop down into your heart and TRUST.

Attitude

Description:
Attitude is everything. Keep a positive attitude at all times. Even, and especially, when things are not going well. Be eternally optimistic. You create a positive vibration around you which attracts positive events and people. If doubt and fear creep in, hold your positive vision of how you want your life to be. At every moment we have a choice: to pay attention to the doubt and fear or to pay attention to positive thoughts.

When and Where:
Anytime that you remember. Take every win, big and small, magnify and globalize it to the point you momentarily become a star in your own life.Take every setback and internalize the lesson but depersonalize the cause.

Benefits:
This attitude allows you to rebound quickly if things do not go your way. This is the attitude required to be successful in life.

Be amazing! Live your life fully and with purpose!

Love: Surrender and Dependency

Description:
The difference between surrender and dependency in a relationship is this: surrender is out of love, dependency is out of fear. Dependency is when you are desiring something: there is a motive. You are ready to become dependent, that’s what you are willing to pay for something. Surrender has no desire in it. It is sheer joy, it is trust, it is unmotivated. Bring your awareness to your relationships with non-judgment and compassion for yourself.

When and Where:
Notice if your relationship is to avoid your loneliness, your emptiness. Or, can you be so happy alone with yourself that you would like to share-happiness always wants to share.

Benefits:
The more you understand yourself, and whether you are surrendered or dependent in your relationship, the more you can be free from unconsciously blocking the love your really want.

Love and Blessings,
pragito
